Canker sores or mouth ulcers tend to happen more often in the spring and summer months. They usually resolve on their own in 10-14 days, but can be very painful! Here are some helpful tips:
Salt water rinses are a helpful home remedy – 1 tsp of salt in 4-6 oz of warm water, and swish 3-4 times a day
Food sensitivity can be a cause – particularly to chocolate, coffee, strawberries, eggs, nuts, cheese, and spicy or acidic foods
A diet lacking in vitamin B-12, zinc, folate (folic acid) or iron can contribute
For prevention, 1,000 mg of Lysine daily can reduce the
Toothpastes and mouth rinses containing sodium lauryl sulfate can be a cause for people sensitive to this ingredient. Here is a good option.
